Teen Author Carnival

Since there was no freebie Friday this week, I have no winner to announce, except maybe myself. Wait. That didn't quite sound right, did it?

That's an ongoing theme for me so far here in New York. I've been so constantly in awe while here that I'm completely verklemmpt and can't think of anything intelligent to say. (I think this is improper usage of the word verklemmpt. See not sounding right, above.)

ANYWAY, I have to tell you, the Teen Author Carnival on Monday was beyond amazing. THANK YOU, Devyn, Mitali, Korianne and everyone who helped for putting it all together! And to Marie, probably the coolest YA librarian I've ever met. Not only did I get to meet a lot of my online author friends for the first time, but a lot of my favorite book bloggers as well. I think I made a fool of myself many times over trying to talk to everyone because in truth I'm a socially awkward and kinda shy person, so I'm not very smooth conversationally. Add on top of that being completely star struck by so many bloggers and authors in the room, and I could barely think straight, let alone talk coherently.

Here's a picture I stole from Devyn Burton's tweet pix of the Mystery Fantasy panel I was on. You can't see me - I'm hiding behind Maryrose Wood (who gave me her one ARC of THE POISON DIARIES and has agreed to come visit for a future Freebie Friday! Yay!) but look at the authors I got to share the stage with! That's Eliot Schrefer, who started our sisters' theme for the panel (he's the author of THE DEADLY SISTER); then Maryrose, who hangs with royalty to research her book; me, hiding behind Maryrose; Judith Graves, who brings multicultural monsters to life (UNDER MY SKIN); Melissa Kantor, (INVISIBLE I, the first book of The Amanda Project - which has the coolest website for the series!); Violet Haberdasher, who started the Harry Potter theme for the evening (KNIGHTLEY ACADEMY); Michelle Zink, who is seriously funny and brought her own entourage (PROPHECY OF THE SISTERS); Tonya Hurley -OMG!- (GHOST GIRL); Michael Northrup, who would very much like to make the Banned Books List (GENTLEMEN); and Jeri Smith-Ready, who is the nicest person you'd ever want to meet (SHADE.)

And that's only one panel! My only regret is that I missed the other two. But I did get to meet TFC sister Stephanie Kuehnert for the first time. And see another TFC sister, Melissa Walker again. I also met Heidi Kling for the first time, after reading her blog online for so long. I'm excited for her upcoming book, SEA. Oh! And Holly Cupala actually knew who I was! (I must have totally babbled to her, I'm such a fangirl.) And so many others. 30 YA authors in one library. Oh, the power.

My publisher was kind enough to send over a box of TRANCE ARCs for the signing, and B&N was on hand with the Death By books. Jon Skovron signed next to me and we discovered not only an Ohio connection, but a D.C. connection as well. He'll be joining us later for a Freebie Friday (and giving a copy of his book STRUTS & FRETS) as will Kitty Keswick (except, you know, she won't be giving away STRUTS & FRETS... she'll be offering up FREAKSVILLE).

But really, the stars of the evening for me were the bloggers. Several I knew from before (Lenore came from Germany! And Daniel was with her!) and some I met for the first time ever (Kristi, James and more!) I probably didn't convey it very well because I was so overwhelmed by the whole event, but I appreciate their support and enthusiasm for reading more than I can say.

I could go on and on, but it's 1:15 a.m. and I have a full day tomorrow (including a group signing at Books of Wonder with another group of fabulous authors, 6-8 p.m.) If you're in New York, please stop by. I might not be able to tell you in nice, pretty words, but I'd love to see you!

Please come back on Friday for a GCC tour and Freebie with Jennifer Echols!

This week's video linkie because I am all fired up and empowered from the BEA trip so far:

Freebie Friday

Okay, so I'm supposed to be at BEA right now. Instead, I'm sitting at my desk in my yukata with a can of flat sprite by my side (all I can keep down) and feeling tremendously sorry for myself that I'm missing out on everything.

I'm not sure what I have. I think it's the flu. All I know is I feel wrung out and really, really bummed. (Whine, whine, wallow, wallow.)

BUT that's not what I was going to post about! I promised you a bonus and here it is: I just got an extra box of DEATH BY DENIM c/o my agent, who got a bunch of copies from my publisher. This is on top of the author copies I got in the first place. So I have extras!

For this week's freebie, I'm going to give away five signed copies. Here's five ways you can be entered to win one of them -
1. If you were at the Author Carnival in New York yesterday, tell me about it!
2. If you are attending BEA, tell me about it!
3. If you know of a good flu remedy, please tell me about it!
4. If you just really want a copy, tell me about it!
5. If you have already have a copy, you can nominate one of your friends to win!

I will draw the winners on Tuesday, June 2.

P.S. If you are a book blogger and would like to give away some copies of DEATH BY DENIM, please send me a note at gerb (@) lindagerber (.) com and I'll hook you up (as long as supplies last.)

P.P.S. To my regular readers and previous winners... you may notice that I am a little behind getting the prizes sent out. (I need an assistant!) As of tomorrow's post office run, though, I should be all caught up. If you have won something and haven't received it by next week, please let me know and we'll double check the list!

What's Up Wednesday

Another Denim Giveaway
I'm featured on Stephenie Kuehnert's blog Women Who Rock feature this week and giving away a signed copy of DEATH BY DENIM. The link is here.

AND Speaking of Denim...
Check out this denim quilt my dear friend Jenny is making for me to celebrate DEATH BY DENIM! Isn't that the coolest thing EVER?!

Teen Author Carnival!
Tomorrow is pre-BEA Author Carnival is tomorrow! Woot! I'll be flying out in the morning.
For those of you who don't live in the New York area, the event will be streamed online live! You can check it out Thursday, May 28 4-6 p.m. EST on this page:
http://www.facebook.com/l/;http://www.blogtv.com/People/fallofautumndistro

Stoopid Power Texting Conspiracy Theory
Seriously, New York Times? North Korea is firing Nukes and the first Hispanic woman has been nominated to the Supreme Court, and you think this is a news item worthy of print space? American Idol is over. Let it go.

That's it for me. What's up with you?

What's Up Wednesday

American Idol
Anyone watch the Adam/Kris finale on American Idol last night? What did you think? Who do you think will win? I was a little underwhelmed by the show as a whole - especially the Kara song - but I think both Adam and Kris had "moments." I'm pretty sure Adam will come out ahead, but I love that both of them will be just as pleased if the other wins.

Glee
After Idol, we saw the pilot episode of Glee. Anyone else catch it? It's set at an Ohio school! Go, Bucks!

Teen Author Carnival
Kind of spur-of-the-moment, I made it work so I could go to BEA and participate in the Teen Author Carnival next Thursday night. If you're going to BEA or are in the NYC area, I'd love to see you!

New Moon Poster
Ooooh. I love the darker, edgier feel to this poster. Who do you think carries the poster here, Edward or Jacob? As much as I laughed at the makeup/wigs/special effects/acting in the first movie, I can't wait to see this one!

Book Auction
Please take the time to hop over to this site and bid on a book or two. This auction is to benefit Bridget Zinn, an upcoming YA author. Bidding ends May 29th.

That's it for me. What's up with you?
