As promised, promo week continues with a special GCC tour appearance by Kristina Springer. Kristina is the author of THE ESPRESSOLOGIST, the forthcoming PUMPKIN PRINCESS (fall 2011), and of course, her newly-released book, MY FAKE BOYFRIEND IS BETTER THAN YOURS. You can find Kristina hanging around the web on facebook, on twitter, on her blog, on Author2Author or on her website.
Here's the official blurb about MY FAKE BOYFRIEND IS BETTER THAN YOURS:
Seventh grade was supposed to be fun, but Tori is having major drama with her BFF, Sienna. Sienna changed a lot over the summer—on the first day of school she’s tan, confident, and full of stories about her new dreamy boyfriend. Tori knows that she’s totally making this guy up. So Tori invents her own fake boyfriend, who is better than Sienna’s in every way. Things are going great—unless you count the whole lying-to-your-best-friend thing—until everyone insists Tori and Sienna bring their boyfriends to the back-to-school dance.
The Center for Children's Books calls MY FAKE BOYFRIEND IS BETTER THAN YOURS "cleverly depicted". Kirkus Reviews agrees, and says the "dialog is realistic" and the personalities "refreshing." And School Library Journal calls it a "fun read" and says, "The themes will resonate with any girl who’s ever gone through the hardships of middle school: friendship, boys, popularity, and, most importantly, choosing to do the right, but often more difficult, thing.”
Please join me in a huge congrats for Kristina's release week, and go grab a copy of MY FAKE BOYFRIEND IS BETTER THAN YOURS!

The Pythagoreans taught that the number three was the first true number.
Trance is getting closer. I can't wait to read it. I love your work.
8 is my favorite number because it is symmetrical horizontally and vertically. if that is supposed to mean i am a balanced person then its wrong cause im crazy like a crazy eight, not a prim and proper eight. <== see what i mean? this entire comment is rediculous but if it wins me a signed trance arc then so be it!!
my number is 7 and hope it will
be on tue
my favorite num is nine cause is was born on 9/9

I hate odd numbers. They freak me out. Everything has to be even. For example, when I eat cereal, I count them out so that i know that there is an even amount. When I brush my teeth, I do it twice in the morning and in the night. The worst number is 3-it gives me the chills even to type it. The best number is 4-no curves. There are 82words in this comment (by the end of this sentence).
I didn't count 82 because, after all, that is number.
That makes me feel very good.

My favorite number is 34 but I have always been "numerically challenged" and numbers and math aren't my strong suit.

The Chinese consider 8 to be a lucky number and 4 to be the omen of death.
There are 11,000 books in my library, 620 students in the school, and zero Linda Gerber titles left on the shelf after the first two weeks of school. Word of Death By Bikini hit the 6th graders early!
Thanks, Elie. And three is a powerful number. Yess.
Ha. I like how you can turn that one on its side, Looksie... no pun intended.
Good number, Desi. Seven is lucky for a lot of people.
Cool, Jennifer. Nine is a powerful number - a triple triad.
I love it, Kulsuma. 4 words in that sentence, so it's even.
34 is a good number, Greta. It denotes strength gleaned through experience, and through observation of people and things. And, I am also numerically challenged. True story. It's dyscalcula, which is kind of like dyslexia, only with numbers. I am constantly transposing numbers and have to keep checking and rechecking myself. Guess how much fun math is for someone like me. Ha.
Yon, yes - four was also unlucky in Japanese for the same reason, I think... it sounds like the word for 'death' even through it's written differently. Some of my kids' friends would say "yon" for four instead of "shi" to avoid the bad luck.
Karen, you forgot, "and one ultra-cool librarian"!
I love numbers. I used to be able to memorize everyone's telephone numbers until I got my first mobile phone -- stored numbers in there and now I can't even memorize my own number!
i love numbers and quite obsessed with it. i do sudoku every day recently and i'm on #55 over 100 on 'hard' level on my i-phone application.and my highest score is to solve it in 1.67 minutes while the longest is 9.84 minutes. quite impressive for me. lol.
The only way i remember phone numbers and combinations is a weird series adding and subtracting the numbers to get a base number that is even. So my wedding date was 10/24/09 If you add those together you get 16 which is a fantastic number. :) I know, I'm weird.

My high school graduating class was 269 (instead of the year). It caused for a lot of jokes for the yearbook lol
My favorite number is 12 because I was born in December and because Christmas in December!!
Also, numbers/math phobic that when I was teaching 4th grade, the only subject I did NOT teach was math, LOL!! I actually switched with another teacher, and he taught my students math while I taught his students social studies.
Thanks so much!!

Oh, Bunny, I know! Now I don't know anyone's number. If I don't have my phone with me, I'm lost!
My daughter loves sudoku, too, Darlyn. I don't find it quite as relaxing since I keep getting the numbers mixed up...
Hey, whatever works, Kristen. : ) That's kinda cool that you do that.
Do they go by the graduating number instead of the year all the time, Yan? I've never heard of that before. Interesting.
Michelle, once when I was sub-teaching, I had to do the math class and I was thoroughly confused! Not only did the numbers elude me, but the method was new and unfamiliar to me. I like it how my kids' school has been running it, with teachers sharing the specialties, as you described. I would totally take social studies, history, or english, and leave math to teachers who actually like it!
I am 43 been married 9 years i have 6 kids plus 2 step kids=8 kids 11 grandkids. i have been amrried 4imes. my oldest child is 25. baby is 16. my middle son was born on 3/19 and weighed 9/13. My oldest daugher has a birthday on 9/11 full of numbers!
Notice the following pattern:
1 x 1 = 1;
11 x 11 = 121;
111 x 111 = 12321
Now it's your turn. What is the square of 11111?
